NYC Temperature Touches April 7 Record of 90 Degrees

By Charlotte Porter
April 7 (Bloomberg)

Temperatures in New York’s Central Park touched 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) today, a record for April 7, and the National Weather Service said readings in the city may reach 92 before the end of the day.
Temperatures across the eastern half of the U.S. have ranged about 20 degrees above normal since last week. The high of 77 Fahrenheit in Central Park yesterday was 2 degrees shy of the record for April 6.
It was 91 in Newark, New Jersey, as of 2 p.m. today, 88 in Boston and 86 in Washington.
Temperatures in the New York area will drop to about 80 tomorrow, on their way down to the mid-50s by April 10, the National Weather Service said. Rain is likely tomorrow night through the next day.
The warm weather comes on the heels of the wettest March on record at Central Park and flooding in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that drove hundreds from their homes, cut Amtrak service to Boston and swelled rivers across the region.
